People comment on my author status on face book. I’m an author all right, ‘the mad author of anguish’ I am. This quote is from Sticky Fingaz of Onyx. This phrase from another one of their songs ran through my mind like a loop the other day: “Ahh, I hate your fuckin’ guts, and I hope that you die. Sticky Fingaz, the name, and my life is a lie’, cause I’m havin’ a bad day, so stay out of my way…” How many of us relate to this on a crummy ass day, huh?
I won’t insert these Onyx videos because my friend who lived in the shittiest of neighborhoods with rampant gun fire and rats running riot said that the video scared her.
But I’ve got a lovely song to temper all that filthy rank. Le Clown reminded me of King Crimson in an earlier comment.
Here’s their “Fallen Angel” song. The fallen angel could be the Devil. Or it could be me in all my unchecked grandiosity – hahaha! When I was 19, I used to get pissy stinking drunk with my boyfriend. I would cry lugubriously and this song might be my background music while I mused over being oh so lonely and oh so misunderstood – bahahahaha!
Fripp-eriffic!
I had to think twice about ‘Fripp-eriffic’ — I recall my ex taking about him being one of the members — he was a huge progressive rock and fusion enthusiast, introduced me to Mahavishnu and Annette Peacock. He was in a band called ‘It’.
Nice! I’ve moved away from my mega-prog phase back in college, but the guitar work on Crimson’s Discipline album still blows my mind.
That’s right, you’re a music writer so you know your music! You have great taste.
Biran and Auntie Sandee,
And what about the guitar sound he created for David Bowie’s Heroes?
Le Clown
He was responsible for that! Wow! That was a really haunting sound. I’m afraid I don’t know enough about Frip.
And Fashion (turn to the left!)
Damn he did that one too? — I’m going to listen to this now.
oh snap you got some hip-hop in you huh…Onyx 🙂 sweet
Oh chile please — I used to get so amped up on this album! Well, actually, I have the cassette tape from ’92 😆 In fact I have a lot of hip hop in me — I just got turned off from it after 98/99. I still listen to it from time to time.
oh ok…I got you. That’s a nice info to know about you. :)… tapes were the joint…45mins then flip B side…then rewind and wait…then replay. lol
You just made me el oh el!
Huh. I don’t think I’ve heard these guys before. (I may have been living under a rock…). I will now have to go investigate.Thanks.
Oh I think you will be more than pleased. Their album Red is stunning.
Cool, I’ll check it out. Thanks 🙂
Robert Fripp is totally awesome. I’m not much of a prog rock fan, but I can get behind his kind of spacey talent.
I didn’t realize he was so involved with the music of other artists like David Bowie. I am in love with this Red album.
Oh hells yeah. The title track…brilliance!
Now I’ll have to listen to this whole album — it’s been a while. One More Red Nightmare was my favorite.
Dear Sandee,
I’m marking this page. The next time I feel misunderstood in my Edward Scissorhands neighborhood, I’m fixin a glass of wine and listening to this song.
😉
Love, Lis

And then you can follow up with one of the Onyx tunes — hahaha!
